Supersum Protection® Antimicrobial Technology
Supersum Protection® antimicrobial technology has been developed to cover the widest spectrum of pathogenic microorganisms, in a safe and permanent way. It contemplates the combined use of silver, zinc and copper metal cations. Free of organic compounds and volatile substances, it does not present any risk of toxicity for humans. A technology that combines optimum effectiveness and duration, minimizing the collateral effects of the use of other chemical products.

Silver
Silver and its compounds offer excellent protection against a wide range of bacteria and molds, having also been shown to be effective in reducing the viral load of flu and the like

Zinc
Zinc, and some of its organic compounds, are well known for their antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is commonly used in a multitude of everyday applications, such as deodorants, shampoos or antifungal.

Copper
Copper has been used since ancient times as a disinfectant in hygienic applications due to its great antibacterial power.
When the microorganism comes in contact with activated metal cations, they interfere with its metabolic mechanisms, preventing its growth, replication and its ability to produce energy, ultimately causing its death.

The use of combined metal cations generates a synergistic effect that enhances the antimicrobial protective activity, achieving a higher response than would be achieved with its components separately, guaranteeing the best response against the widest possible spectrum of microorganisms and viruses.
The active components used in Supersum Protection® surfaces are completely non-toxic and harmless to humans, meeting all safety standards. Among other regulations, they comply with the European Biocide Directive (CE) No. 1048/2005 of June 13, 2005 and with the Directive (E.C.) No. 528/2012 that regulates the use of biocidal agents in industry.
Supersum Protection® Active Surface Technology
Supersum Protection® surfaces are made of a high strength polyolefin film of multilayer structure and only 50 microns of total thickness.
They are free of chlorine, plasticizers, and any hazardous chemical that could cause skin sensitization.
During its manufacturing process, the film is subjected to a stretching process that orients polymer molecules, improving its mechanical properties, increasing its toughness, its elasticity, and its resistance to tearing.

The structure of the film and the special composition of the polymers with which it has been designed allow to enhance the action of antimicrobial agents, increasing their effectiveness and reducing response times:
Enhancement of the fixation of pathogens in the active interface, by modifying the polarity and surface tension of the film.
Formation of a reactive support, which acts as an interface between pathogens and the surface of the film, and which also favors the activation of metal cations with antimicrobial effect.
Effectiveness of Supersum Protection® surfaces
Supersum Protection® antimicrobial technology has been successfully tested against more than 50 pathogens, among others:
Staphylococcus aureus
Streptococcus faecalis
Listeria monocytogenes
Micrococcus
Clostridium
Enterococcus
Escherichia coli
Salmonella typhimurium
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Klebsiella pneumoniae
Yersinia pestis
Vibrio cholerae
Agrobacterium tumefaciens
Neisseria meningitidis
Aspergillus niger
Sclerophoma pityophila
Cladosporium cladosporioides
Penicillum brevicaule
Aureobasidium pullulans
Trichoderma viride
Chaetomium globosum
Alternaria alternata
Cladosporium cladosporioides
Chlorella pyrenoidosa
The effectiveness of Supersum Protection® films can be seen very quickly with the following example, where the same amount of an Aspergillus niger culture was inoculated on two plates.
The plate on the left corresponds to a sample from an untreated surface, while the sample on the right corresponds to a sample protected by a Supersum Protection® surface.
After incubation for 24 hours at 37ºC, the formation of a halo around the protected sample is perfectly observed, indicating the absence of a microbial population..

The following graphs show the same behavior analyzed over time, during 24h.
Two samples are compared, one of them protected by a Supersum Protection® surface, and the growth of the colony population of E.coli bacteria is analyzed.
While the protected sample shows a decrease in the population of bacteria greater than 99%, on the untreated surface, in the same period of time an exponential population growth is observed.

Supersum Protection®
Benefits of using Supersum

• Reduction of bacteria and microorganisms up to 99.99%

• Effective against viruses, being able to reduce surface viral load by up to 99%

• Effective against mold and algae

Minimization of cross contamination. Minimization of microbial and viral loads minimizes the potential for cross-contamination.

Hygienically clean all the time. The effectiveness of Supersum Protection® is continuous, 24h a day, 7 days a week, from the first minute of its installation

Does not release chemicals into the environment

Long-term duration. The useful life of the protection is as long as the film life. Antimicrobial agents do not lose effectiveness over time, nor do they migrate to the surface or disappear with washing

Resistant to aggressive chemical environments. Supersum Protection® films are especially resistant to chemical agents. They can be cleaned with any professional cleaner, with the only limitation not to use abrasive cloths or objects that could tear it. A damp, soapy cloth is sufficient.
